The weaknesses of any town can vary depending on it’s size, location, resources, misconceptions etc. Here are some of the weaknesses that may be common for many towns.

Each town may face a different combination of challenges based on its specific context, but addressing the weaknesses can help improve the town’s overall quality of life and prospects for the future.

Let us make a list of a few common weaknesses and address them one by one, with the context related to every district.

  1. Limited Economic Opportunities – There may be limited or not enough job or income opportunities for youth, which results into youths moving to big towns. This has been a weakness of lot of towns in every district. Another impact of economic issues can sometimes lead to social problems, such as higher crime rates, substance abuse etc.

Solution : Identify income opportunities in and around town.

Refer to the list of natural resources (nature’s gift to the town) mentioned in the topic “Explore Natural Resources as Income opportunities” and convert every gift into a wonderful income opportunity for all villages in the vicinity.

Understand the gap between the capacity of the soil and actual production of the crop, fruits, vegetables and develop the program to close this gap, which will create an income opportunity, for which you may not have to put extra efforts to educate the townmates.

These are just few examples but when you look around in your own hometown, you will find unlimited number of opportunities that are hidden in the nature.

So invite all of your like-minded friends around the world to join the discussion.

  1. Outdated Technology and Resources – Some towns struggle to keep up with the technological advancements, leaving them with outdated systems in education, business, communication which can make them less competitive.

Note: We will discuss this in detail in the separate topic

  1. Environmental Issues – Environmental challenges which are common in certain parts of India. For example, floods, draught, wildfire, drying of rivers, wells, lakes These are all seasonal challenges every year, which means they happen during certain time of the year but whenever it happens it weakens the town’s resilience and livability.

Note: We will discuss this in detail in the separate topic.

These are just a few examples for you to start thinking but you know your own hometown better so focus only on your hometown and enjoy the journey of success.

What is required is, intellectuals from local and global town community should come together to find permanent solution for such issues and make big difference in their town’s lifestyle.

Promoting community led initiatives to unlock sustainable income opportunities from every kind of natural resource available in our hometown district.

Every place in the world has typical natural resources available in abundance whereas other places do not have same resources at all. Hence it is very important that we identify all our natural resources available in our district which can be converted into a beneficial asset to support the economic growth of the district community.

Some of the examples of natural resources could be river, seashore, mountain, forests, waterfalls, huge rocks, trees, plants, fruits, flowers, vegetables, natural geographical formations, particular environment, enjoyable climate, pleasant winter, exciting monsoon, beautiful summer, timebound changes in the nature, particular kind of animals, peculiar birds, wonderful natural sites and so on.

So let us use these examples as the guiding and reference points to see what are the natural resources do we have and analyse them one by one. For example, analyse the current usage/benefit against the full potential of the natural resource. If there is a gap, then let us brainstorm on how to bridge the gap and take full advantage of available opportunity.

It may be possible that there may still be some natural resources which have not yet been looked at or considered for whatever reason for converting them into commercial opportunities. The reasons could be just ignorance, not realising the strength, no need of additional income opportunities etc.

Now we understand the purpose of this subject. So let us identify all such natural resources and analyse them one by one to generate new local business/income opportunities.

Develop low budget tourism in small villages (10+ houses) by hosting small houses with village look and culture as the place for people from cities to spend time as vacation days. This can also be the best option for the people who cannot afford to take their entire family at known tourist places as vacation. This also will be favoured by economically comfortable families to enjoy core village life with local legacy food as the break from busy city life.

The host family can provide all necessary services like food, bed etc. to guest family. The host interested in offering the village house as tourism attraction should get registration/license from government under proper business category like lodging and boarding, which will ensure security and comfort of guest family.

Please note that this opportunity is not only for farmhouses but any house which is in remote place surrounded by only nature experience.

This may help farmers to have some assured supplementary income to support the uncertain farm produce income. This may further motivate farmers to stay in traditional farming activities and find ways to explore more farming income opportunities.

You may upload any location with all relevant information on the Tourist page, that you think, can be a good house or place for village tourism.

So let us discuss about what are the opportunities and issues in our district to initiate such village tourism locations.
