The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, formerly the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (1991–2021), is India’s highest sporting honor, awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

What Makes the Khel Ratna So Significant

  • Highest sporting honor in India — it sits at the top of the national sports awards hierarchy, above the Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, and Dhyan Chand Award.
  • Performance-based, not lifetime achievement — it specifically honors exceptional performance over the previous four years at the international level, which keeps the award tightly tied to current sporting excellence.
  • Renaming in 2021 — shifting from Rajiv Gandhi to Major Dhyan Chand was widely seen as a symbolic move to honor India’s greatest hockey icon and a figure deeply associated with sporting excellence.

The Award Includes;

  • ₹25 lakh cash prize
  • A medal
  • A certificate of honor

This combination makes it both prestigious and materially significant recognition for athletes.

Award is received by Athletes who:

  • Win medals at the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or World Championships
  • Demonstrate consistent, world-class performance across multiple years
  • Elevate India’s presence on the global sporting stage

Every taluka holds extraordinary potential—villages full of energetic children, schools with hidden talent, and communities eager for opportunity. What they often lack is a guiding force. Adopt A Taluka invites you to become that force: a leader who takes pride in nurturing sports culture across an entire region.

This is your chance to shape the future of sports in your native taluka and build a legacy that lasts for generations.

A taluka is more than a geographic boundary—it’s a living ecosystem of people, dreams, and possibilities. When you adopt a taluka, you help transform this ecosystem into a structured, thriving sports hub.

Your leadership can help create equal access to every child in taluka and develop a culture where sports becomes a respected career path.

Adopt a taluka means …instead of focusing on a single athlete or sport, you contribute to building a complete sports ecosystem that includes;

Grassroot talent identification, multi-sport training opportunities, coaching and mentorship etc.

Motivate and strengthen every school and college in Taluka to become hub of 3 -4 sports (school’s identity) as the place of excellence and growth by integrating structured sports programs.

Implement Government’s various sports promotional schemes.

Connect experts, coaches and mentors with local youth

Organise local practice matches and competitions to build confidence of victory for district, state and national awards.

Promoting awareness so families support sports participation.

Unite communities around local teams and events to create cheering force.

If you’ve ever wanted to give back to your roots in a meaningful, lasting way, Adopt A Taluka is your opportunity.

Shape the culture. Build the ecosystem. Empower the youth for generations.

If you want to be a part of this initiative, then please add comments with your suggestions and ideas for further brainstorming discussion with the taluka and district community to make this initiative successful.

Every sport grows when someone decides to stand behind it. Adopt A Game is your chance to take the sport you love—whether it’s kabaddi, khokho, football, athletics, badminton, wrestling, or any other discipline—and help it rise from districtlevel participation to nationallevel excellence.

This initiative invites passionate individuals to become custodians of a game’s future in their hometown. Turn your passion for a sport into a movement that shapes champions.

Your involvement may create better training environments, access to quality coaching, talent identification, awareness and participation at the grassroot level. You become driving force to remove all the obstacles and gaps in the development and progress of that game in your hometown district

Build a Sporting identity for your district

Imagine your district becoming known for excellence in a particular sport. Imagine children proudly saying, “This is our game.” Imagine national selectors looking to your hometown for rising stars.

That transformation begins with one person who cares deeply—someone like you.

By adopting a game, you help your district develop a sporting identity that inspires generations.

If there’s a sport that has shaped you, inspired you, or captured your heart, now is the time to give back. Adopt it. Nurture it. Watch it flourish.

Together, we can take your favorite game from districtlevel participation to nationallevel glory.

If you want to be a part of this initiative, then please add comments with your suggestions and ideas for further brainstorming discussion with the district community to make this initiative successful.

Every champion begins as a of child with a spark – an untapped potential waiting for someone to believe in them. Through Adopt A Player, you can become that life changing force for a boy or a girl from your own native district.

This initiative gives you the opportunity to select a young athlete, follow their journey closely, and support them at every step of their sports career.

When you adopt a player, you are not just offering financial help, but you are giving them something more powerful. Belief that their dream matters, encouragement when the path gets tough.

A young athlete’s journey is filled with challenges, equipment cost, coaching fees, travel expenses, nutritional needs and emotional ups and downs. Your support helps them overcome these barriers and stay focused on their growth.

By adopting a player from your district, you are not only just helping one child, but you are strengthening the entire sports culture and creating a ripple effect of hope and ambition.

You may use our Contact form or send email to SportsSocialInitiatives@townsol.com

Players can share their needs and type of support they require, and supporters can mention the help that they are willing to provide to the player. Then we will match players and supporters’ information and connect them directly.
